Praised for her “lushly evocative mezzo” and “attentive and precise” musicianship, Clare McNamara is a Boston-based soloist and chamber musician specializing in early and new music. In addition to Cut Circle, her ensemble affiliations include Lorelei Ensemble, Handel & Haydn Society, Skylark Vocal Ensemble, Vox Humana, and Apollo Master Chorale.
This season Clare debuts with The Boston Camerata for “A Night’s Tale,” and joins the award-winning medieval/contemporary ensemble Tapestry for concerts in Los Angeles and New York. Season highlights also include the premiere of David Lang’s “love fail” for eight voices with Lorelei Ensemble at Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum; her Mozart Requiem solo debut at Harvard’s Sanders Theatre; and the production of two new commercial recordings, on the Sono Luminus label, with the Skylark and Lorelei ensembles. Clare can be heard as the Vivaldi soloist on the soundtrack for “On the Nature of Things,” a critically acclaimed piece by the internationally recognized modern-dance troupe Pilobolus Dance Theatre.
Clare holds an A.B. in Music from Princeton University and an M.M. in Early Music Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College
